Glen Eira City Council
The City of Glen Eira is located in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne with a current estimated population of 131,013 people. Through a pitch and tender process, Red Crayon were given the opportunity to present concepts to The Glen Eira City Council for their 2014/15 Annual Report which were to drawn upon Glen Eira’s Open Space development plan.
The project required not only design and typeset of the 246 document but also full photographic art direction and management and print production management.
The theme chosen was PLAN • CREATE • ENGAGE, which is a continuation on the previous year’s design which focused on open space. Public open space contributes to the liveability and character of Glen Eira and these key words emphasise the importance that Glen Eira Council places on the creation of purposeful open space for the community.
The cover depicts the Flowering Red Gum (Corymbia ficifolia) which prominently features throughout Glen Eira as preferred street planting species, thus creating a harmonious connection between conscious planning and development and the natural environment.
A vibrant series of engaging imagery was also carefully planned with our Art Director to capture the council’s Open Space Projects and highlight this relationship throughout the Report.
To ensure maximum usability and definitive content structure to the 246 page Report, a colour coding system was devised and inspired by colours found in nature. These colours were also carefully print tested on the Recycled stock.
The Glen Eira City Council and Red Crayon alike are very proud of the final printed publication and as a result Red Crayon have been appointed to design and produce the next Annual Report 2015/16.
The 2014/15 Glen Eira Annual Report was recently recognised for the following awards through the Australian Reporting Awards Organisation:
