Trends are the designer’s most fickle friend. It seems as soon as you’ve mastered a style, it suddenly becomes unfashionable & cliché. But here’s a run down on what’s happening in 2015 to help you stay ahead of the curve!
GRAPHIC DESIGN PREDICTIONS
Lay it Flat
Whilst 2014 saw a pull towards layering & realism with the inclusion of patterns, shadows, gradients & 3D illustration, this year is all about ‘Flat Design’ which draws influence from existing styles such as swiss style, minimalism & Bauhaus to create a more simplified, sleek look.
We’ve seen it in fashion already, but the 80s & 90s are back with a vengeance! These retro styles will evolve even more with pops of fluoro & flat geometric shapes.
Out of this world
Wanting to capture the awe of the cosmos, top creatives are predicting an intergalactic take over with emergence of space inspired graphics. BIG STATEMENTS – there will be more emphasis on type with the use of mix & match fonts & larger, bolder statements.
Like a fine wine
The Pantone colour of the year goes to… Masala. An earthy wine-like colour which is warm & inviting yet stylish. It translates easily to fashion, beauty & industrial design & makes for a strong statement colour on its own or a great accent to many other colours.
The End of an Era
In the world of branding there will be a strategic shift from the ‘Institutional Era’ towards what is being referred to as the ‘Human Era’. This era is characterised by these key traits:
- Brands that are talking & acting like people
- conversational & more personalised to its audience
- Real & even flawed
- This is about taking transparency to a new level. It requires authentic stories & real connections
- The return of fun
- Time to show true colours & personality, creating unique brand ‘characters’
